UN Special Envoy on Road Safety Jean Todt visited the new UN building in Almaty
UN Special Envoy on Road Safety Jean Todt was on a visit to the city of Almaty touring the new UN building, which was the first of its kind since its establishment, reports Strategy2050.kz.
While touring the UN Special Envoy was presented with and welcomed Kazakhstan’s initiative to build a UN Regional Hub in the confines of the new building.
“Kazakhstan is an essential partner of the United Nations and greatly contributes to global partnership for higher road safety. Kazakhstan also focuses on better implementation of the SDGs both within the country and within the Central Asian region,” Jean Todt said.
The UN Special Envoy on Road Safety also met with Mayor of Almaty Bakhytzhan Sagintayev, the secondary education reps in the No.90 secondary school.
During his September 14-17 visit to Kazakhstan, UN Special Envoy on Road Safety Jean Todt held deliberations on reducing loss-of-control crashes and forge strategic ties among the governmental structures, business communities and non-governmental organizations as well as promoting the adoption of national road safety programs under the Decade Programme.
He attended the Road-traffic safety. Current state. Ways of improvement roundtable meeting under the aegis of the Inland Transport Committee of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, discussing the issues of road traffic safety and exchanging the views and developing the recommendations on reducing road tragedies in Kazakhstan.
He also met with a number of high-ranking officials in Kazakhstan.
