Tokayev toured S.Seifullin Kazakh Agro Technical University

The Head of State has familiarized with the educational and research activities of the University, as well as conversed with teachers and students, the Akorda press service informs.

The University’s Rector Akhylbek Kurishbayev presented the President the new varieties of crops bred using modern methods of molecular biology and genetic engineering. For 5 years, the university scientists have managed to create new drought-resistant varieties of wheat and barley.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has been informed on the application of new technologies in the production of bioorganic fertilizers, digitalization of the veterinary system and the process of animal registration.

He has also been updated on the modern methods of space monitoring and remote sensing of the earth to control land use processes, which are already in place in Aktobe and Akmola regions.

The President has expressed the opinion of spreading such methods to other regions.

He has also been informed about the university’s relations with leading scientific and educational centres of the world, with a roadmap developed jointly with the French University AgroParisTech, allowing for a transition to a dual-degree education, one of the key areas of international cooperation of KazATU.

The meeting has stressed the relevance of advanced technologies.

“Your activities are important. Robotics, digitalization and artificial intelligence are the reality of modern life, especially in developed countries. Therefore, we should in no case be left behind. Study well so as to find your place in the future life, we will need such specialists in both the private and public sectors,” the President said.

In turn, the students thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the support provided and for his instruction to increase the size of the scholarship by 25% since January 2020.
