South Africa and Kazakhstan unite to address global issues

16 October, 2019 12:59

Kanat Tumysh, newly-appointed Kazakh Ambassador South Africa, attended an event of presenting the letters of credence to the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse on October 15, 2019, Strategy2050.kz informs with reference to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

During the event, the Kazakh ambassador conveyed South Africa’s President sincere greetings and warm wishes of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kazakh President, to outline the RSA’s outstanding presidency of the UN Security Council, the high level of Kazakh-South African political, economic, cultural and humanitarian relations aimed at fostering full cooperation among the countries.

The ambassador confirmed the Kazakh leaders’ commitment to further building-up the efforts to improve mutually beneficial cooperation mechanisms and reported on the key areas, outlined by President Tokayev in his inaugural statement and the state of the nation address. He went on to say that Kazakhstan adopted the measures to diversify its economy, promote the transit and transport capacity and encourage investment, and informed about the country’s upgrading in political, social and economic development, which are similar to the recent initiatives of the President-elect since May 2019, Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Kazakh ambassador accentuated the need for cooperation within international organizations, with both sides repeatedly proving themselves as promoters of the principles of multilateralism and supporters of anti-war and anti-nuclear policies, particularly the UN Security Council, with the Kazakh presidency in 2017-2018, and South African presidency in 2019-2020.

The initiatives of Nursultan Nazarbayev, first Kazakh President and Leader of Nation, in particular new geopolitical reality based on three dialogues, as well as a world free of the scourges of terrorism and WMD were mentioned.

He pointed out the ideas of tolerance, as well as inter-ethnic and inter-confessional peace and harmony promoted by the country.

“Our countries have much in common. South Africa and Kazakhstan have diverse populations with different ethnicities, religions, and traditions – the diversity that strengthens and enriches us,” he said.

RSA’s President Cyril Ramaphosa called for the development of mutual tourism and investment.

“We will host the 2nd South Africa Investment Conference next month, on 5 to 7 November. We welcome investors from your country to attend the Conference and seek the opportunities South Africa offers,” the President said.

The President also emphasized South Africa’s government and people’s commitment to deepening economic partnership, political dialogue and cooperation with Kazakhstan on matters of mutual interest. He wished Ambassador Kanat Tumysh an enjoyable and meaningful stay in South Africa.

“It is the friends like you we seek to work on protecting and strengthening the rules-based multilateral system of global governance… as well as to address poverty, inequality, war, terrorism and climate change. These challenges are inter-related. We should work together to discourage unilateralism in matters of international trade and security. We must work together to defend the integrity of our multilateral institutions by ensuring their effectiveness, inclusive and truly democratic nature,” he said.
