Senate Speaker invites Singapore to enhance economic relations with Kazakhstan

Kazakh Senate Speaker Dariga Nazarbayeva met with Senior Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security of Singapore Teo Chee Hean, the Senate press service informs.

The Senate Speaker pointed out Kazakhstan commends the friendship with Singapore, established in the early days of independence by first President – National Leader Nursultan Nazarbayev and first Premier of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew.

"Our country has a stake in strengthening trade, economic and cultural humanitarian relations, attracting Singaporean investments in Kazakhstan,” she said.

She went on to say that there are good opportunities for foreign businesses that are opening up through the Astana International Financial Centre.

“Singapore companies will be able to use the AIFC’s potential for expanding cooperation with Central countries Asia and the EAEU. The latter is a rapidly developing and promising region with a population of more than 160 million people,” she said.

On his part, Teo Chee Hean stressed the role of first President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in the formation of sovereign Kazakhstan and development Kazakhstan-Singapore relations.

He also noted the importance of the free trade agreement between the EAEU and Singapore.

“The agreement will give new incentive to the cooperation between ASEAN and EAEU countries,” the Senior Minister of Singapore said.

Senate Speaker Dariga Nazarbayeva informed the interlocutor about the plans of Kazakhstan to develop its transport, logistics and export potential, stressing that Singapore could be a gateway to Kazakh companies to the markets of Southeast Asia.

Teo Chee Hean noted that Singapore is ready to share with Kazakhstan the experience in the field of digitalization and public administration.

The parties agreed to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Dariga Nazarbayeva invited Singaporean deputies to visit Kazakhstan, to get to know the country, its sights and people. The Speaker also proposed to open direct air flights between Kazakhstan and Singapore.
