Roads of regional significance improved 3% in Kazakhstan
In 2019, an indicator on the quality of local roads was 71%, improving by 3% compared to 68% in 2018, the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development reports.
Much attention was paid to the development of roads of regional and district significance, with more than 200 billion tenge allocated to implement 386 projects across the country: 37 construction projects, 34 reconstruction projects, 60 projects to overhaul the roads and 255 projects on medium repairs covering 4 617 km. The share of roads of regional and district significance in good and satisfactory condition at year-end was 71%.
Mangystau region had the most road projects in 2019, with 5 reconstruction and 2 construction projects. With 92% of the region’s roads of regional and district significance being in good and satisfactory condition, the region ranked first in terms of the local network’s road quality.
2020 is due to see over 4 thousand km of the roads undergo repairs, 350 road projects are to be carried out to up the share of local network roads in good and satisfactory condition to 75%.
Of note, under the state program Nurly Zhol 2020-2025 Kazakhstan plans to repair over 25 thousand km of the roads, as well as to bring the share of local roads in good and satisfactory condition to 95%.
