Regional cooperation between Kazakhstan and Portugal discussed in the Algarve
30-31 January 2020 saw the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Portugal, Daulet Batrashev, paying a working visit to the southern region of Portugal, the Algarve, the Kazakh foreign ministry reports.
Meetings were held with the leadership of the administrative centre of the city of Faro, the Algarve Coordination and Development Commission, as well as representatives of the regional green community.
During a conversation with the chairman of the Algarve Coordination and Development Commission, Francisco Serra, issues of cooperation in the trade and economic field, promoting the export of domestic goods, as well as the development of interaction in the tourism industry were discussed.
The meeting of the Ambassador with the Mayor of Faro Rogério Bacalhau dwelled upon the promising areas of cooperation with the Algarve, with the interlocutors agreeing upon the existence of sufficient prerequisites for establishing close and fruitful cooperation at the regional level, highly appreciating the existing potential of Kazakh-Portuguese cooperation.
The Portuguese politician expressed interest and readiness in establishing twinning relations with the Kazakh city of Aktau. In addition, it was agreed to open the Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan in the Algarve this year.
In order to establish contacts with companies in the region, negotiations were held with the President of the Algarve Entrepreneurs Association, Vitor Netu, and Ana Fernandez, Executive Director of the Trade and Services Association.
They discussed the challenges facing the business community, as well as the prospects for the implementation of specific projects to attract investment in the economy of Kazakhstan and the organization of visits of Portuguese business delegations.
The Kazakhstani diplomat informed about measures to protect foreign investors and practical aspects of doing business in Kazakhstan. Particular attention was paid, first of all, to mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of tourism, high technology and agriculture. In addition, business circles drew attention and interest in establishing partnerships in the field of logistics and transportation of goods, taking into account the geographical location and opportunities of Kazakhstan in terms of transit and transport potential.
Algarve companies demonstrated interest in organizing economic missions in the regions of Kazakhstan to establish contacts with domestic business structures.
The Algarve is a region in southern Portugal, with an area of 4995 sq. km. The population is 451,006 people. The administrative centre is the city of Faro.
