Quota for attracting foreign workers in Kazakhstan cut by 40%

13 January, 2020 12:21

The maximum permissible amount of foreign labor allowed for employers to engage in labor activity in Kazakhstan for 2020 amounted to 29,292 units, or 0.32%, relative to the number of labor in the country, Strategy2050.kz has learnt from the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population.

The quota was reduced by 40% compared with the amount approved in 2019 (48,700 units), including 3 categories (specialists) - by 37% and 4 categories (skilled workers) - by 23%. Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda and North Kazakhstan regions have completely refused to attract foreign workers in the 4th category and plan to cover the needs of employers by means of local specialists.

The adoption of the quota will protect the domestic labor market from unskilled foreign labor, employ more Kazakhstani personnel, and also satisfy the demand of employers for qualified foreign labor.
