President took part in discussion of situation in Central Asia at Munich Security Conference

Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke at the panel session of the 56th Munich Security Conference on the topic “Geography Matters: An Update on Central Asia”, Strategy2050.kz reports with reference to Akorda’s press service.

President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, also participated in the discussion as a speaker. The event was moderated by American diplomat, President of the Council on Foreign Relations Richard Nathan Haass.

The panel discussion was held in the format of a lively discussion, where the speakers, answering the questions of the moderator, shared their vision of resolving security problems in Central Asia.

Speaking about the role of the region, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his opinion that its place in global geopolitics will only increase.

The President informed the forum participants about the foreign policy priorities of Kazakhstan, the relations of our country with Russia, China, the EU, the USA, as well as with Afghanistan.

Special attention was paid to the issues of regional security. The Head of State spoke about measures to combat drug trafficking and Kazakhstan’s contribution to countering terrorism, dwelling on the results of operations Zhusan and Rusafa.

In addition, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev familiarized the audience with the priorities of his presidency, the main directions of political and economic reforms. In this context, the President emphasized that he attached the utmost importance to diversification of the economy, innovations development and digitalization.

At the end of the session, the Head of State answered questions from the audience.
