OSCE welcomes ongoing reforms in Kazakhstan
A delegation of the Kazakh Parliament, headed by Deputy Chairman of the Senate Askar Shakirov, has taken part in the 19th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Vienna, Strategy2050.kz reports with reference to the Senate’s press service.
Addressing the joint plenary meeting of the General Committees, the Deputy Chairman of the Senate has informed the members of the Assembly about the political and democratic transformations being carried out in Kazakhstan.
In particular, the measures taken under the concept of a “hearing state” to develop a multi-party system, strengthen the rights of the parliamentary opposition, involve women and youth in the legislative sphere, and improve the law enforcement system and legislation on peaceful assemblies have been mentioned.
At the meeting, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly, George Tsereteli, commended the reforms being carried out in Kazakhstan and the personal participation of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in it.
Given the significant contribution of the Head of State to the activities of the OSCE PA, George Tsereteli has invited him as an honored guest to the upcoming events of the Assembly, in particular the annual session to take place in this July in Vancouver.
During the session, the Vice-Speaker of the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament has held meetings with the leadership of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Chairman of the National Council of the Austrian Parliament Wolfgang Sobotka.
The Parliament members have participated in the debates of the General Committees on Political Affairs and Security, on economic issues, science, technology and the environment, and on democracy, human rights and humanitarian issues, with the fight against discrimination and intolerance, the resolution of protracted conflicts, the consequences of climate change and others at stake.
