Nur-Sultan will host World Cancer Leaders’ Summit 2019

World Cancer Leaders’ Summit 2019 in Nur-Sultan will bring together Healthcare Ministers, First Ladies, city and industry leaders, senior leaders and other influential members of the community on cancer, health and development issues to discuss advances and main challenges that countries are facing when include cancer in their United Health Care plans, Strategy2050.kz refers to the press service of the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology.

The Summit is organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology.

Cancer is considered the second leading cause of death worldwide, after cardiovascular diseases. Last year, this disease claimed 9.6 million lives, and more than 18 million people were diagnosed with cancer throughout the world, which roughly corresponds to the population of Kazakhstan.

Approximately 30 million new cases of cancer per year are expected by 2040 worldwide. Governments clearly need to urgently scale up universal health coverage, which includes cancer control services, to ensure equitable access to quality cancer prevention, early detection and management, and protection from financial risks for their citizens.
