“This event is taking place at a very important moment when world leaders, including Mr.Tokayev, have gathered at the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New-York earlier this week. The UN Secretary-General told on Monday at the Climate Change Summit that climate change is a race that we are losing. He told to the SDG Summit that the agenda on sustainable development is coming to life, but we are far where we need to be, we are off track”, he told.

The Conference is held in the form of open discussions on global ideas and issues within the framework of the United Nations. The issues that come under discussion are the preservation of endangered languages, the issues regarding the proliferation of weapons in outer space, the impact of sanctions on the global policy, the growing number of attacks on schools and you name it.

“At the Climate Change Summit many countries pledged to reach a carbon-free economy by 2050, Finland, for example, pledges to be carbon-free by the year 2035. The countries agreed to dedicate the next 10 years to strategic actions to achieve the SDGs”, he said.

27 September is about to hear the participants’ stances on some issues with further discussions on their solutions, while 28 September will see the participants prepare resolution projects as well as there will be voting. The resolutions with most votes are due to be passed.

The Model UN Project was initiated back in 2017 in the confines of the Library of the National Leader together with the Ulan-Gaiyr Dala Eli Public Association with support of the Fund of the First Kazakh President – the Leader of the Nation. Its creation comes at 25 years of Kazakhstan’s accession to the UN as well as Kazakhstan’s selection as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2017-18.
