Number of Internet users in Kazakhstan increased to 2.5 mln subscribers

So, at end-August, the country has had 2.5 million fixed Internet subscribers. Their number increased by 1.2% during the year. There are 14 fixed Internet subscribers per 100 people, Energyprom.kz reports.

The number of cellular subscribers with Internet access amounted to 15.1 million - an increase of 8.5% compared to the same period last year (13.9 million). There are 82 cellular subscribers with access to the Internet per 100 people.

According to the results of eight months of the current year, the income received from Internet access services increased by 15.7% and reached 185.2 billion tenge. In the same period a year earlier, revenues were 160 billion tenge, with an increase of 6.8%.

In general, in 2018, revenues from Internet services amounted to 243.3 billion tenge - 6.4% more than for the same period last year (228.7 billion tenge).

In Kazakhstan, as well as throughout the world, there are changes in the segment of Internet services. In the capital of Kazakhstan, on the territory of Nazarbayev University and St.Regis Hotel, the first 5G pilot zones were launched. Currently, 5G network testing in Kazakhstan is carried out by Kazakhtelecom. For the deployment of the pilot 5G network, Huawei’s equipment was used. The main advantage of the new connection is a high data transfer rate, as well as the possibility of mass and reliable connection of devices.

In the second half of this year, it became known that Nokia will help introduce 5G in Kazakhstan. Global telecommunications giant Nokia may invest 500 million US dollars to introduce 5G in Kazakhstan.

At the moment, Kazakhstan is ranked 64th in terms of fixed Internet speed (38.3 Mb/s). The line above is St. Vincent and the Grenadines (38.6 Mb/s), and the line below is Kosovo (36.7 Mb/s).

The leaders in the Internet speed are Singapore (193.9 Mb/s), Hong Kong (161.2 Mb/s) and South Korea (160 Mb/s). The top five also included Romania (131.2 Mb/s) and Taiwan (129.4 Mb/s).
