Mazhilis Speaker met with Serbia’s National Assembly President within 141st Assembly of IPU in Belgrade
Nurlan Nigmatulin, Mazhilis Chairman, and Maja Gojković, current President of the National Assembly of Serbia, discussed the inter-parliamentary relations on 14 October 2019, Strategy2050.kz informs with reference to the press service of the lower house of parliament.
Both have held talks on the fringes of the 141st Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union taking place 12-15 October in Belgrade.
Noting that Serbia is Kazakhstan’s key political partner in the Balkan region, Nurlan Nigmatulin pointed out that the two countries’ relations are evolving in full mutual understanding and trust.
According to the Mazhilis Speaker, first Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s visit to Serbia in 2016, and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s visit to Kazakhstan in 2018, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s decision to set up a Kazakh embassy in Belgrade demonstrate the countries’ interest in fostering cooperation.
The perspective areas of cooperation among both countries include agriculture, construction, pharmacy, tourism. The emerging free trade zone between the EAEU and Serbia also holds great potential.
The Mazhilis Speaker mentioned his preference to develop links between Kazakh and Serbian parliamentarians as they have a stake in exchanging the experiences in providing legal support for reforms, the active involvement of collaboration groups and portfolio committees.
Nurlan Nigmatulin thanked Maja Gojković for her participation in the 4th meeting of speakers of Eurasian parliaments held in September in Nur-Sultan, expressed confidence that the initiatives and proposals put forth at the meeting would elevate the interaction of Eurasian countries to a new level.
