Malaysian, Kazakh officials discussed coop in agriculture, food sector
On 25 November 2019 Bolat Imanbayev, Kazakhstan Ambassador to Malaysia, attended a meeting with Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry of Malaysia Salahuddin bin Ayub, Statetgy2050.kz informs with reference to the Kazakh foreign ministry.
The meeting touched upon ways to broaden the bilateral trade and investment cooperation, as well as prospects for collaboration in agriculture and in the halal industry, during which it was noted that Kazakhstan is of great interest as a hub for distributing Malaysian goods in Central Asia and the EAEU.
The Kazakh diplomat stressed that the participation of Malaysia in the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), set up by the initiative of the First President of Kazakhstan, will give an additional impetus to the bilateral and multilateral cooperation in agriculture and the food sector.
He went on to say that that the cooperation within the IOFS could cover various areas and provide opportunities for sharing experiences in the field of innovations and modern technologies, as well as take coordinated actions to provide necessary emergency and humanitarian assistance, to mobilize and manage financial and agricultural resources in the name of greater food security. In this regard, the Kazakh Ambassador asked the Malaysian side to enter the IOFS.
The Malaysian minister positively assessed the prospects for cooperation in the agro-industrial sphere and noted that the idea of the IOFS is very relevant and directly linked to global security issues, expressing an interest in the activity of the organization and willingness to participate in the next IOFS General Assembly as an observer.
