Kazakhstan to open Swiss hospitality schools and UNWTO Academy
Kazakhstan will establish an educational center - representative office of the best world hospitality and tourism schools in Switzerland and one of the first academies of the World Tourism Organization at the UN (UNWTO), Strategy2050.kz reports referring to the Department of Marketing, Communications and Digitalization of Kazakh Tourism National Company.
At the moment, such an academy exists only in Georgia, but the opening in Portugal, Switzerland and China is expected in the near future.
It is planned that the educational center will operate on the basis of the International University of Tourism and Hospitality in Nur-Sultan created by the Decree of the Government of Kazakhstan dated March 20, 2019 No. 129.
The primary task of the center for the coming years is to train 1200 specialists from among those already working in the industry, as well as new personnel. The emphasis will be on the linear staff of hotels and restaurants, as well as on the middle managers in the departments with the highest staff turnover, such as room service, restaurant service, gastronomy, catering, sales, marketing, etc.
Financing of the center will be provided within the framework of the planned budget of the International University of Tourism and Hospitality. Sponsors from the industry who are directly interested in improving their human resources will also be attracted.
“One of the tasks of the State Tourism Development Program is to improve the quality of service. Within two months, we managed to negotiate with representatives of the most prestigious Swiss schools “Les Roches” and “SHL”, with UNWTO, to work out interaction issues with them, invite them and officially sign a memorandum on the creation in Kazakhstan of a modern educational center for training personnel in the field of tourism”, Chairman of the Board of “Kazakh Tourism” National Company Yerzhan Yerkinbayev said.
It is noted that under the “Les Roches” program top managers of the industry will be trained, SHL will take on the function of retraining personnel and implementing short-term training courses, and the representative office of the UNWTO will act as a scientific, academic and analytical support for the educational process, providing access to the latest information in industry, trends, research. The presence of such an academy will help to increase the attractiveness of destinations on an academic level: specialists will help to attract foreign students and UNWTO international events to Kazakhstan.
“Georgia’s experience in education was studied, where these schools have already begun work. In their case, it took about 7 years to attract such serious educational institutions and use their brand. Thanks to the agreements with our Georgian colleagues, as well as the UNWTO Academy in Georgia, the term for attracting and launching educational programs, as well as the cost of obtaining a license, are significantly reduced”, Yerzhan Yerkinbayev continued.
At the university, as a whole, organizational work is being carried out, a license has been obtained and a selection committee is being formed, work is underway on material and technical support.
