Kazakhstan Temir Zholy seeks coop with domestic component manufacturers
An expanded meeting on issues of import substitution and localization of production of railway products in Kazakhstan was held on 29 January 2020 at the Electric Locomotives Construction Factory in Nur-Sultan, the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy national company reports.
Further sustainable development of railway engineering and an increased localization of production are priority areas for the growth of the country's economy.
The event was attended by Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Berik Kamaliyev, representatives of Samruk Kazyna, Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, heads of enterprises manufacturing railway products.
“Our common goal is to ensure high localization of production and gradually conquer international markets,” Berik Kamaliyev, Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development, said in his welcoming speech.
Work is underway to support the plant manufacturing passenger wagons Tulpar, to provide large-scale orders for enterprises for the assembly of ZIKSTO and KVK freight wagons, to attract financing for the production of platforms.
As noted during the meeting, the main requirement for manufacturers is to ensure high quality of products.
According to Kanat Almagambetov, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, it is important to achieve maximum localization by strengthening cooperation with component manufacturers.
“KTZh actively supports local production, helps in organizing accreditation, certification, testing at its sites, and purchases products. We also plan to conduct an analysis of what we are still purchasing abroad and post the list on the site. We want domestic manufacturers to report what they can offer us from the list,” he said.
Before the 28 January 2020 extended meeting, the meetings saw the leaders and specialists of KTZh discussing with representatives of more than 30 domestic engineering enterprises the proposals for organizing the production of new types of components for railway vehicles, in particular, equipment and power supply devices, systems of railway automation and telemechanics, parts of locomotives and wagons.
The extended meeting ended with the signing of agreements on increasing the share of local content in Kazakhstan in manufacturing railway products. In particular, with Asia Trafo LLP – to manufacture high-voltage equipment and traction substation equipment, with Prommashkomplekt LLP, the Locomotives Construction Factory, the Electric Locomotives Construction Factory to develop production of all-rolled wheels for locomotives, with Kazcentrelectroprovod LLP – to work on railway automation and telemechanics systems.
In addition, between the Locomotive Construction Factory and the Electric Locomotives Construction Factory and industrial enterprises - 12 agreements were concluded to localize the production of components for traction rolling stock.
