Kazakhstan takes measures against locusts - Ministry of Agriculture
According to forecasts of Kazakhstan’s methodological center for phytosanitary diagnostics and forecasts, in 2020 the spread of herd locusts in an area of more than 500 thousand hectares is expected in the country. In this regard, special services are preparing for protective measures, Strategy2050.kz refers to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.
The release notes that Kazakhstan constantly pays due attention to the organization of protective measures against locust pests.
So, for the current year, the republican budget allocated one billion tenge for the purchase of pesticides and chemical treatment services for the whole projected area. An additional reserve stock of 47.5 thousand liters of pesticides for locust pest control over an area of 525 thousand hectares is also stored in the central warehouse.
To carry out protective measures, 148 units of special equipment were prepared: 119 ground sprayers, 10 aircraft, 10 ultralight aircraft and 9 aerosol gas generators.
It should be noted that a large locust invasion is currently observed in East Africa. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has expressed concern about the unprecedented threat of crop and animal death and, as a result, massive hunger in many countries.
