Kazakhstan sees seasonal rises in vegetables and fruits’ prices
To combat the spikes in prices for vegetables and fruits, Timur Kulibayev, Chairman of the Bureau of Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs put forth a strategy, Strategy2005.kz informs referring to Energyprom.kz.
The prices for cabbage and cucumber have seen a near 15% increase, with garlic going up by 7.3% and green beans – by 1.7%.
The prices for vegetables with less seasonal spikes such as onion (25.2% fall within the month), carrots (22.8% decline), beet (minus 9%), potato (minus 8.2%) keep going down, whereas prices for tomatoes reduced by 1.4%. However, their prices are about to go up.
The prices for oranges have gone up considerably (by 4.3% compared to the prices in August), whereas bananas have gone down (by 2.8% within the month).
Timur Kulibayev, Chairman of the Bureau of Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs put forth a strategy for combating price rises and spikes in the capital. According to him, Nur-Sultan has no centres for the harvesting of foods as well as long-term storage centres. He believes that distribution centres fall short in ensuring efficient control over the prices.
He went on to say to turn to the experience of Moscow, where trucks of vegetables and fruits are purchased, including from Kazakhstan, thus regulating the prices to steer clear of spikes. According to him, Atameken will work on creating centres of agricultural competence in neighbouring regions as well as developing output of products demanded in the capital.
Eurasian Economic Commission data indicate a 5.5% rise in the prices for goods and services in August 2019, compared with August 2018, in Kazakhstan, behind Belarus where the prices went up by 5.7% within the year. They are followed by Russia (4.3%), Kyrgyzstan (2%), Armenia (0.6%). The EAEU annual inflation rate was 4.4%.
Kazakhstan had the biggest 9% yearly rise in food prices among the EAEU countries, followed by Russia (5%), Belarus (6.2%), Kyrgyzstan (3.7%) and Armenia (0.2%).
September has seen the rise in prices for products of animal origin, thus eggs have risen in price by 6.1%, frozen fish – by 2.3%, lamb – by 2.1% and horse meat – by 2%.
Millet and rise have gone up by 3.1% and 2.2% respectively compared to the prices in August.
The prices for beverages and groceries have increased by at least 1%, whereas sugar has gone down by 4.6% within the month.
