Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CNTBTO), Lassina Zerbo, emphasized that thanks to First President of Kazakhstan, Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, who decided to close the Semipalatinsk test site on August 29, 1991, the process for adoption of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty was launched in 1996. He drew attention to the unique contribution that Kazakhstan makes to the CNTBTO, noting that, on the initiative of Kazakhstan, the United Nations annually celebrates International Day Against Nuclear Tests on 29 August.

The areas of further cooperation between Kazakhstan and the CNTBTO were discussed, in particular, the deployment of the first noble gas radionuclide monitoring station in our country as a cooperating element of the CNTBTO global monitoring system, the functioning of which makes covert nuclear testing impossible.

During his visit to the UN Vienna Office, Ashikbayev also visited a specialized laboratory that conducts scientific and forensic research in the field of drugs and their precursors, as well as enhancing the competence of law enforcement, special and consular services, including through the identification of fake identification documents.
