Kazakhstan expresses concern over Ukrainian trade proceedings
Vice Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan Zhanel Kushukova held talks with the Ukrainian delegation led by Deputy Minister of Economic, Trade and Agriculture Development - Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka on trade measures issues, Ministry’s press service informs.
During the meeting, the Vice Minister expressed concern about the possible adoption by Ukraine of protective measures against Kazakhstani manufacturers of rolling bearings and mineral fertilizers.
At present, the Ukrainian side is conducting an anti-dumping investigation regarding rolling bearings and special protective investigations regarding mineral fertilizers originating from Kazakhstan.
“The Kazakh side expresses concern about the protective investigations conducted by the Ukrainian authorities. The Ukrainian market is traditional for Kazakhstani producers of bearings and mineral fertilizers and the establishment of barriers to their supplies from Kazakhstan can seriously worsen the economic situation of Kazakhstani producers”, Zhanel Kushukova said.
In response, the Ukrainian side raised issues on anti-dumping investigations carried out by the Eurasian Economic Commission and trade measures applied by some EAEU countries in relation to goods from Ukraine.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed preparations for the upcoming 12th WTO Ministerial Conference, which will be held June 8-11, 2020 in Nur-Sultan. The Ukrainian side expressed its readiness to support the development of positions on the main issues on the agenda of the upcoming event.
The parties agreed on the possibility of holding a bilateral Intergovernmental Commission, as well as issues of further development of bilateral trade.
For reference:
In Kazakhstan, the only enterprise producing bearings is Stepnogorsk bearing plant JSC, which last year won a tender for the supply of bearings to Ukrainian railways. The average annual import of bearings to Ukraine is 2.1 thousand tons.
There are two companies producing mineral fertilizers in Kazakhstan: Kazphosphate LLP and KazAzot JSC. Both enterprises supply mineral fertilizers to the Ukrainian market (an average of 113 thousand tons per year).
