Kazakhstan and UN’s cooperation discussed in NY
On UN margins, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Mukhtar Tleuberdi, met with UN Under-Secretary-General - High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing Countries Fekitamoeloa Utoikamanu, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry reports.
The Under-Secretary-General expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan for the active work of our country within the group of landlocked developing countries.
The head of the Foreign Ministry informed the UN representative about the priorities of Kazakhstan's work in the framework of the upcoming chairmanship of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries, which will begin on January 1, 2020. As the largest landlocked country, our country intends to become a leader in this group to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The parties emphasized the significant contribution of the Almaty Action Program initiated by Kazakhstan for landlocked developing countries for 2004-2014 and the Vienna Program of Action for 2014-2024.
Kazakh Foreign Minister M. Tleuberdi also held talks with UN Under-Secretary-General - head of the Counter-Terrorism Office (CTO) Vladimir Voronkov.
The Minister informed about the activities of Kazakhstan in the fight against terrorism. The Kazakh side expressed appreciation for the support provided by the CTO to the promotion of the Code of Conduct initiated by First President of Kazakhstan - Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, to achieve a world free of terrorism. Today, 84 states have joined the Code and Kazakhstan will continue to work on its universalization.
The UN representative praised the efforts of Kazakhstan in ensuring security and sustainable development, and expressed gratitude for the active cooperation with KTU. Fruitful work was noted on the operation “Zhusan” to return the citizens of Kazakhstan from war zones, which can serve as an example for many countries of the world. The parties reached an agreement on the creation under the auspices of the UN of a documentary film on the above operation and the implementation of a special PR campaign calling on countries to fight terrorism.
