Kazakhfilm's 'Guardian of the Light’ won 2 prizes at International Film Festival in Sochi

The film "Shyraqshy" ("Guardian of the Light") by Yermek Tursunov received two prizes at the Sochi International Film Festival and Awards as it was recognized the best, and also received the prize "The Best Actress", awarded to the people's artist of Russia - Nina Usatova. Yesterday Muratzhan Mukazhanov, who played the lead role in the film, presented the film to the Russian audience at the award ceremony, the Kazakhfilm studio’s press service informs.

This year, 50 films were screened at the festival, with 10 full-length, 12 short and 8 documentary films included in the competition programme. The jury of the festival's competition programmes included experienced film industry professionals and eminent guests from around the world: South Korean film director and screenwriter Kim Ki-duk, actress Maya-Gozel Aimedova, Ramsgate International Film Festival President Sylvie Bolioli, writer Richard Dicken, singer and musician Katya Semenova, director Vladimir Alenikov , people’s artist Larisa Luzhina, Bulgarian producer and director Zlatina Filipova, editor-in-chief of the ProfiCinema news site Nina Romodanovskaya, film critic Olga Sherwood.

The film "Shyraqsha" ("Guardian of the Light"), made by the Kazakhfilm film studio following the Kazakh Culture Ministry’s order, tells the story of a soldier returning from the war. He was handed over an old film projector with films as a gift from a rescued old German. The soldier keeps the projector for the rest of his life.

The film’s world premiere was in June this year at the Shanghai Film Festival.

Actor Muratzhan Mukazhanov received a special grand jury diploma “for creating a poetic image of a cinema art minister” at the Open Russian Film Festival “Kinoshok-2019” in Anapa, and camera man Martin Sechanov received the A. Knyazhinsky prize “The best cameraman work in full-length cinema”. The picture has also been longlisted for the prestigious Golden Globe film award.
