Kazakh PM Askar Mamin meets with President of ADB Takehiko Nakao
Prime Minister Askar Mamin received the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Takehiko Nakao, who arrived in Kazakhstan to participate in the regional summit in Almaty, "Mobilizing Financial Resources for the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals," primeminister.kz reports.
“Kazakhstan was the first Central Asian country to join the Asian Development Bank. This year marks 25 years of our fruitful cooperation. We consider ADB as a strategic partner, which in terms of the number of projects implemented in Kazakhstan is one of the leaders among international financial organizations,” said Mamin.
Since 1994, ADB has allocated over $5.1 billion in loans for the implementation of government projects in Kazakhstan to develop finance, infrastructure, energy, the public utilities sector and other areas. To date, about 30 projects worth $3.8 billion have been fully implemented.
For $49 million, ADB funded about 100 technical assistance projects in the transport and agricultural sectors, education, healthcare, the development of small and medium-sized businesses, and other areas. More than $628 million was allocated for the implementation of private sector projects in the modernization of the transport and communal sectors, livestock, and others.
The parties discussed the prospects for further cooperation in the field of agriculture and support for rural development in the framework of the project “Aul – El Besіgі,” housing, tourism and other sectors of the economy of Kazakhstan.
Nakao noted the significant contribution of Kazakhstan to the implementation of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation Program under the auspices of ADB and its active participation as a donor in the Official Development Assistance Program.
