9 September, 2019 11:12
In the service of the peace UN medals were bestowed upon the second Kazakh peacekeeping squadron’s military personnel serving in Lebanon.

The Chief of the UN Interim Force Staff presented the medals to the composite company’s personnel.

Over the entire period of the mission, the Kazakh peacekeeping squadron has become known as professionals.

The second Kazakh peacekeeping squadron had joined the mission “UN Interim Forces in Lebanon” for six months to replace the first under the mutual understanding treaty between the Kazakh and Indian Governments “On the modalities of the deployment of the Kazakh peacekeeping contingent as part of the Indian battalion”.

The second squadron is due to return in November 2019 and will be replaced by the third one.

Earlier Kazakh militants were part of such missions as observers.

Generally speaking, Kazakhstan is a supporter and active participant of any initiative related to the strengthening peace and security. Developing a peace-keeping potential is defined as one of the main objectives of carrying forward the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan.

On 1 September this year the Israeli Army carried out retaliatory missile attacks on the territory of Lebanon bringing the UN units including the second peacekeeping squadron of Kazakhstan into a readiness condition to fulfill the tasks in accordance with the obligations made.
