Kazakh Foreign Ministry and UN Country Office discussed population issues
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted an official ceremony devoted to the conclusion of an Agreement in the form of an exchange of notes between the Government of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Population Fund regarding the legal status of the country office of the United Nations Population Fund in Kazakhstan, Strategy2050.kz cities the MFA’s website.
The Kazakh side was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev, the Fund – by UNFPA Representative in Kazakhstan, Country Director for Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan, Giulia Vallese.
Mr. Ashikbayev noted that the UNFPA program activities in Kazakhstan are consistent with the priorities of the Government, the UN Development Partnership Framework and the agenda until 2030.
The Government of Kazakhstan considers it important to continue constructive engagement with the UNFPA country office in Nur-Sultan as part of program activities on population development, national strategic programs, as well as to achieve the third and fifth Sustainable Development Goals.
The main areas of UNFPA activities include support in improving reproductive health, resolving issues related to the reproductive rights of the population, paying particular attention to the rights of women, adolescents and youth, as well as migrants, the elderly, people with disabilities and other vulnerable categories of the population; responding to gender-based violence; improving demographic statistics and assisting with population censuses and basic national surveys.
