Kazakh foreign minister partook in the C5+1 Ministerial Meeting
On 3 February 2020 Tashkent, Uzbekistan, saw Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi, Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Raşit Meredow, Foreign Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov, Tajikistan Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo attended the C5+ 1Ministerial Meeting, the Kazakh foreign ministry informs.
The Kazakh foreign minister spoke of the strengthening of regional interaction among the Central Asian states, especially noting the high effectiveness of the Consultative Meetings of the Leaders of the countries of the region held in Nur-Sultan and Tashkent. The meeting participants pointed out the importance of deepening regional cooperation in the field of economics, energy, environmental protection and security.
“The US International Development Finance Corporation can help boost US investment in Central Asia. As a partner of the American Agency in Kazakhstan, we offer the Astana International Financial Centre as a site,” he said.
He focused on the need to develop the existing transit and transport capabilities of the region, as well as the potential of the created Central Asian regional energy market. The Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan proposed using the International Centre for Green Technologies and Investment Projects as a platform for implementing initiatives in this area.
The C5 + 1 Ministerial Meeting ended with the signing of a joint statement, reflecting the priority issues of the regional agenda.
C5+1 represents a mechanism for interaction among Central Asian countries and the USA, with such a meeting first kicking off on 26 September 2015 on the sidelines of the UN GA in New York. So far, seven meetings at the level of foreign ministers have taken place.
