Kazakh Foreign Minister held a meeting with US Administration reps

Newly appointed Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi has met with the representatives of the U.S. Administration – Deputy Assistant to the President of the United Nations and the U.S. National Security Council’s Senior Director for South and Central Asia Lisa Curtis and Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Keith Krach on 23 September 2019 in New York, Strategy2050.kz informs with reference to the Foreign Ministry’s press service.

Mukhtar Tleuberdi and Lisa Curtis welcomed the development paces of the bilateral cooperation as both touched upon the practical implementation of the agreements reached following the visit of First Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Washington early this year and promotion of expanded strategic partnership among Kazakhstan and the U.S.

The Kazakh Foreign Minister stressed that Kazakhstan looks forward to continuing the multidirectional foreign policy and intends to promote a strategic partnership with the U.S. on wider issues.  He has also dwelled on the current democratic changes in the country.

In her turn, Lisa Curtis outlined that the U.S. commends Kazakhstan’s input in supporting and developing Afghanistan, with an emphasis on the global and regional security, including the return of the Kazakh citizens from the combat areas in Syria.

The issues of trade and economic and investment cooperation was the main focus during the meeting with Keith Krach, where the Kazakh foreign minister informed on the current tasks to further develop the economy and social sphere, announced by Kazakh President Tokayev in the state-of-the-nation address “Constructive public dialogue – the basis of stability and prosperity of Kazakhstan” to the Kazakh people.

The U.S. diplomat welcomed the Kazakh Government’s efforts aimed at improving the country’s investment climate, including through ensuring the rule of law, corruption fight and you name it. The minister noted that the USA is one of the largest investors of Kazakhstan and emphasized the need to diversify U.S. investment in the Kazakh economy. 

On the same day the Kazakh foreign minister held a meeting with his Austrian colleague – Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs Alexander Schallenberg, where both went over the wider issues of bilateral political, economic and cultural and humanitarian cooperation. The sides reaffirmed that mutual high-level visits could give further impetus to the bilateral relations.

The Austrian minister expressed his country’s interest in developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Kazakhstan in various areas, including renewable energy sources and digitalization.

The meeting ended with the sides confirming the mutual commitment to the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.
