Kazakh capital city marks Mother Earth Day, plants trees

28 April, 2021 13:35
This weekend, a group of environmental activists and citizens gathered to plant trees in Kazakh capital city Nur-Sultan to mark International Mother Earth Day, reports a Strategy2050.kz correspondent.

The campaign gathered more than 300 people. All sanitary requirements were observed.

Nearly 100 trees were planted with common efforts. The campaign was initiated by a local group of active citizens, named Green Day Inn.

“We want to give all people a chance to plant trees, thereby making a contribution to our society and the future of our children,” said the group.

The International Mother Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22.

"Mother Earth is clearly urging a call to action. Nature is suffering. Oceans filling with plastic and turning more acidic. Extreme heat, wildfires and floods, as well as a record-breaking Atlantic hurricane season, have affected millions of people.  Now we face COVID-19, a worldwide health pandemic link to the health of our ecosystem," said UN in a statement published on the official website.
