Kazakh, British trade unions enhancing coop
Yeraly Tugzhanov, Chairman of Kazakhstan’s Trade Unions Federation, met with the British embassy representatives to go over the vital aspects of bilateral cooperation among Kazakh and British trade unions on 16 October 2019, Strategy2050.kz informs with reference to the Kazakhstan’s Trade Unions Federation.
The Chairman discussed with Jacky Devis, Head of the British Embassy’s Political Section, and Larisa Volkova, Political Officer, and the main directions and how Kazakhstan’s Trade Unions’ Federation functions.
The meeting touched upon the measures, the trade unions adopting, to protect workers’ rights and the role of trade unions’ in dealing with social and labour issues.
“Under the triangular social partnership model, over 115 thousand memorandums to save jobs have been signed, 24 Conventions of the International Labour Organization with the participation of trade unions have been ratified. All those steps aim at improving working conditions and living standards,” the Chairman of the Kazakh Federation of Trade Unions said.
The Kazakh Federation of Trade Unions’ international cooperation was in the spotlight.
The Federation has so far established partnership relations with union trade centers of more than 30 countries, signed agreements with 12 national union trade associations. It is also an active participant of international events on union trade activities.
Jacky Devis, on her part, informed about Britain’s trade union center – the British Trade Union Congress, consisting of 48 member organizations and 5.5 million members.
She went on to say that the Center is willing to provide necessary support to strengthen Kazakh trade unions’ capacities, and cooperation among both countries’ trade unions.
Yeraly Tugzhanov expressed interest in joint elaboration of recommendations on the Federation’s improvement in social partnership and good working conditions.
