National Company KazakhInvest has rendered support for the investment project aimed at reinforcing the coastline of the Ural River nearby the Makhambet village in Atyrau region. Over the past 10 years the coastline has shifted 10 meters endangering the settlement, therefore the Japanese company Tokyo Rope pledged to apply the cutting-edge technology – Rock Box gabions.
The Japanese company investor has been expanding its presence and developing projects in Kazakhstan with support of KazakhInvest, which acts as a single operator for attracting investment to the country. The coastline of the Esentai River in Almaty was once reinforced by the same Japanese investor. The company is experienced in carrying out projects to build defense constructions against mudflows, landslides, rockfalls.
Atyrau region’s Governor Nurlan Nogayev expressed hope for long-term cooperation when conveying his gratitude to the Tokyo Rope leadership for their interest.
“The century-old company is known to the world for its cutting-edge technology. I would like to note that first Kazakh President – National Leader Nursultan Nazarbayev spearheaded the initiative to bring Japanese business to our country during his meeting with the leadership of Tokyo Rope as part of the visit to Japan. The company completed successfully the project in Almaty, its representation office is opening up in Atyrau today. We plan to carry out key projects in the region in the near future, including the works on reinforcing the coastline, the opening of a medical centre, there is a stake in the machinery sector,” he said.
There are over a thousand foreign companies running in Atyrau region in line with the Head of State’s task to create favorable conditions to encourage foreign investments.
The construction’s total length will be about 4.5 km and will be carried out under the PPP principle. The road map is already approved, and design and planning estimates are being finalized. Construction works will begin in 2020 with the use of the products made in Kazakhstan at Tokyo Rope Almaty, a plant manufacturing high-strength metal nets and panels.
“We have conducted an analysis on Atyrau region’s economic potential. The region is developing. We are willing to attract high technology and carry out some projects in the region, including the works on reinforcing the coastline, the construction of a medical centre”, Sato Kadzunori, president of Tokyo Rope.
According to Yerzhan Kolbayev, the project is vital to the region.
"Once it has been carried out successfully the investors can expand their presence in the region. We are certain that Tokyo Rope’s works in Atyrau region will encourage other Japanese investors to enhance cooperation with Kazakhstan. Our company provides full consulting support to foreign entrepreneurs willing to invest in the perspective sectors”, Yerzhan Kolbayev, Director at KazakhInvest’s office in Atyrau region.
The technology applied is environmentally friendly. Thus, unlike concrete, gabion lets water through giving way for moisture. Over several years the space keeps filling up with soil creating conditions for vegetation. Gabions can serve as long as 70 years.
