Intl cooperation agreement among Kazakh Government and CERN ratified
A bill ratifying the agreement on international cooperation among the Government of Kazakhstan and the European Organization for Nuclear Research in the realm of scientific and technological cooperation has been adopted at the 26 September 2019 plenary session of the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament, Strategy2050.kz informs.
The agreement was concluded on 29 June 2018 in Geneva by Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev, and CERN Director-General Fabiola Gianotti.
In his speech, the Kazakh energy minister has noted that the agreement’s ratification will allow strengthening the current scientific ties and creating a base to ensure the participation of Kazakh scholars, engineers, students and technical specialists in CERN scientific and research projects in the long run, as well as other contributions upon the sides’ agreement.
Following ratification Kazakhstan will have the CERN Non-member state status, giving Kazakh scholars and specialists an opportunity for internship at the existing installations as well as take part in routine experiments and scientific surveys held by CERN for free.
CERN is a leading world organization in the field of particle physics research.
CERN’s Large Hadron Collider is the world's largest and most powerful particle collider and the largest machine in the world.
It has been noted that successful research in the field of high energy and particle physics can be carried out through the efforts of many countries.
As of today, 23 countries are CERN member-States that also set on its Board. CERN employs around 2400 people and over 10 thousand physicists and engineers from 580 universities and institutes. 113 countries take part in CERN international experiments.
Cooperation with CERN is of high significance and prospective for local scholars and it will enable Kazakhstan to direct its resources on priority areas.
The cooperation implies bilateral mutually beneficial collaboration in the global use of atomic energy in the following areas: fundamental surveys on nuclear physics, elementary particle and high energy physics, solid structure radiation physics, applied research on nuclear physics, development and application of nuclear technology in energy, industry, agriculture and medicine.
The roadmap providing for cooperation among institutes, scientific organizations with CERN labs in fundamental and applied research, nuclear medicine, nuclear physics and so on has been designed and approved following the joint order of the Energy Minister and the Minister of Education and Science for the purpose of further cooperation with CERN.
