Santosh Vijaya Kumar, Honorary Secretary, Singapore Press Club, Editor of the InsideRecent.com News Agency paid his attention to a series of steps that Mr Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced in his State of the Nation Address that will chart the country's course in the coming years.
“Importantly, even as he laid out his goal of having an accountable government, he has proposed a new concept of a “state that listens”, which aims to facilitate dialogue between the common people and the government. This will go a long way in easing their apprehensions, meeting their needs, reducing inequality and improving the quality of life”, he said.
The speaker also mentioned the activities aimed at developing Kazakhstan’s external policy.
“On the external policy front too he has outlined several priorities, such as intensifying efforts to attract foreign direct investment, helping farmers to market their products overseas and supporting the Astana International Financial Centre as it continues to develop the country's financial sector and digital economy. These are key for Kazakhstan to grow its economy and be competitive in the emerging markets”, Santosh Vijaya Kumar stated.
In the end the Honorary Secretary of Singapore Press Club noted Tokayev’s rounded view of what needs to be done after having served the country in various capacities over the years.
“He knows the ground and the surroundings well and understands that reforms cannot be rushed through. It takes discussions, approvals and time. His policies have the right focus. The challenge before him is to see that they are implemented effectively”, he concluded.
