Geology Minister met with heads of US companies
AS part of the visit of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the USA Energy, Geology and Natural Resources Minister Magzum Mirzagaliyev has held meetings with the US companies’ representatives in New York to establish cooperation, Strategy2050.kz informs.
The Kazakh minister met with Mrs. Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, Assistant to the UN Secretary-General, as well as with the representatives of FreePort, Baron, Schlumberger and others.
The meetings saw a wide range of issues come under discussion, in particular implementation of joint projects in Kazakhstan in the realm of geology, geological prospecting, environment, development of hydro meteorological network.
FreePort’s representative Mr. King announced the company’s intention to enter the Kazakh copper mining market. The sides agreed to hold a meeting in Nur-Sultan in the near future for further discussions.
While meeting with the Baron representatives the issue of development of national hydro meteorological network was considered. The sides exchanged the views and went over the aspects of further possible cooperation in that context. The company’s representatives pledged to present their vision on that matter to the Ministry.
The Ministry also signed a memorandum with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in an effort to joint explore water resources, train specialists.
On top of that, an agreement in investing in Kazakhstan’s geological exploration with Schlumberger’s Western Geco was reached by concluding a memorandum depicting the details of cooperation and funding mechanisms.
“All these meetings held these days in the USA have on objective to bring investment, new technology to our country. There was productive dialogue with the representatives of the large American companies that expressed their interest in joint implementation of projects in our country. There will be additional talks in the walls of our Ministry. I hope our contacts will continue and we could implement good projects with American companies,” Mirzagaliyev said.
