First SPE Symposium took place in Nur-Sultan

The Society of Petroleum Engineers Symposium devoted to the issues of labour protection, industrial safety, environmental protection and social responsibility in the Caspian region has taken place in Nur-Sultan. It has been organized by KazMunayGas National Company (KMG) as part of Kazakhstan Energy Week 2019, Strategy2050.kz informs with reference to KasMunayGas’s press release.

SPE Technical Director Johana Dunlop, Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Magzum Mirzagaliyev, KMG Board Chairman Alik Aidarbayev, NCOC Managing Director Richard Howe, Kazenergy Director General Bolat Akchulakov, Director of Safety at the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers Olav Scar have opened the event.

The symposium has brought together more than 300 representatives of the oil and gas companies of the Caspian region as well as regional and world experts in industrial safety.

The key topics have been the issues of the rational use of natural resources, social and ecological responsibility. The participants have exchanged the experiences in the introduction of innovations in the area of industrial security.

We note that KazMunayGas focuses on proactive actions preventing traumas, casualties and negative impact on the environment.

Since early 2019 the number of industrial traumas has been cut by a quarter, nevertheless the company continues improving and seeks new ways to reach a zero rate of injuries.

“The company is committed to the highest occupational safety standards, and we do everything to ensure that culture grows. These efforts are yielding the results, thus in over the past 5 years our company has reached progress in industrial security and labour protection. We will continue to work towards 100% safety”, Aidarbayev said.

KazMunayGas is the Kazakh national operator to explore, produce and process and transport hydrocarbons, its 90.42% shares are held by Samruk Kazyna National Welfare Fund, 9.58% by the Kazakh National Bank.
