Demand for electric cars halves in Kazakhstan
Total 1 232 972 vehicles have been registered following 10 months of 2019, a 12.2% rise compared to the same period of 2018, including 1 149 542 falling on secondary registration, by 11.5% up compared to the previous year (1 031 139), and 83 330 vehicles - primary registration, a 23.4% rise over the same period of 2018, KazAvtoProm informs.
As of October 2019, the number of registered vehicles was 139 575, a 9.3% rise compared to the figure of last year, with 129 824 vehicles being bought in the secondary market (+8.3% compared to October of 2018).
According to the Kazakhstan Union of Enterprises of Automobile Industry KazAvtoProm, the demand for electric cars has declined by half, with 24 electric cars registered within 10 months of 2019 against 47 in the previous year.
Over two thirds (69.3%) of the vehicles re-registered since the beginning of 2019 fall on the vehicles older than 10 years, including vehicles over 20 years in operation (41.7% or 479 869), from 11 to 20 years – 27.6% (316 713), from 4 to 7 years – 20.6% (236 768), from 8 to 10 years – 6.0% (68 736), from 1 to 3 years – 3.5% (40 181), and vehicles less than 1 year – 0.6% (7 275).
There is a steady ageing trend in the domestic vehicle fleet, with the number of vehicles over 20 years for sale in the secondary market rising from 39.6% in January-October 2018 to 41.7% in the reporting period, while the number of vehicles from 1 to 3 years in service declining from 4.5% to 3.5%.
10 months of 2019 has seen the largest number of secondary registration found in Almaty region (174 410), Almaty (144 324) and Turkestan region (104 689).
Almaty region has also seen the largest number of re-registered vehicles older than 20 years (99 344, 20.7%), followed by Turkestan region (50 513 or 10.5% re-registered vehicles older than 20 years) and Almaty (41 965 or 8.7%).
In Almaty most vehicles less than 1 year have been re-registered – 1 609 or 22.1%, followed by Nur-Sultan, with 987 or 13.6% re-registered vehicles younger than 1 year, and Atyrau region (640 or 8.8%).
