Dariga Nazarbayeva, Valentina Matviyenko discussed bilateral relations
While on an official visit to Russia, Kazakh Senate Speaker attended a meeting with Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko, Strategy2050.kz informs with reference to the Kazakh Senate.
The meeting touched upon the wider issues of bilateral cooperation, including the countries’ parliaments.
In her welcoming remarks, the Senate Speaker marked that the multi-sided relations of Kazakhstan and Russian have been and remain the closest ones, largely due to the relations between First President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Dariga Nazarbayeva pointed out the issues regarding border cooperation and proposed to upgrade the status of crossing points on Kazakh-Russian frontiers.
“The procedures relating to border passage need to be simplified for the sake of the people, especially those residing in cross-border areas,” she said, adding: “This will promote the social and economic and cultural exchange, giving incentive to SMEs in regions, integration processes”.
The meeting also deliberated in the environmental issue, efficient water and cross-river management.
“The issues relating to the Ural River were tabled many times at different levels, but there has been no progress so far,” she says.
The Senate Speaker refers to the establishment of a joint commission, financed by both countries, comprising representatives of government, major consumers, NGOs, as well as research institutes, and tackling water saving and cross river issues, as a solution.
Valentina Matviyenko stressed that the friendly and allied relations among Kazakhstan and Russia are of great importance to both countries.
“Such meetings are held to consider issues needed parliamentary control and ensure that high-level agreements are fulfilled,” she said.
The Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia went on to say that the development of inter-parliamentary links between Kazakhstan and Russia is important, and marked their role in enhancing the economic and cultural, and inter-regional relations.
She invited to conduct joint preparations for the World Interfaith and Inter-Ethnic Conference, to take place in 2022 in Russia, as well as wanted to see Dariga Nazarbayeva as the Co-Chair of the 3rd Eurasian Women’s Forum.
The meeting saw Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko be awarded the Dostyk Order of the 1st degree for her contribution to the development of bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Russia in accordance with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s decree.
