Dariga Nazarbayeva: Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan hold considerable potential to cooperate
The Chairwoman of the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament, Dariga Nazarbayeva, met with Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who is on an official visit to Kazakhstan, Strategy2050.kz informs referring to the Kazakh Senate’s press service.
Both stressed their special attention to the strengthening of cooperation among the two countries.
Dariga Nazarbayeva, in her speech, outlines that Uzbekistan is a key strategic partner of Kazakhstan in Central Asia.
“Today’s Kazakh-Uzbek relations are marked for high pace of development in all areas largely due to the contributions of first Kazakh President – National Leader Nursultan Nazarbayev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev,” she said.
She went on to say that the second abroad visit of Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was paid to Uzbekistan, thus demonstrating the commitment to further strengthen the relations in the spirit of mutual understanding and good neighborliness.
With the trade turnover between the countries rising by 25% and standing at $2.5B in 2018, Uzbekistan is Kazakhstan’s key partner.
“We need to proceed with working on accomplishing the tasks set to bring the mutual trade to $5B,” she said.
According to her, both countries hold the considerable potential to further deepen the cooperation in investment, energy, tourism, regional and border cooperation, transit and transport.
Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, on her part, marked that Kazakhstan is a reliable partner of Uzbekistan.
“Our nations have common historical and cultural roots. There are the similarities in different fronts of development. Uzbekistan places great significance to the friendly relations with Kazakhstan,” she said.
The sides pointed out the inter-parliamentary dialogue among Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is gaining momentum, and needs to become systematic, including through establishing a joint inter-parliamentary cooperation commission.
The discussion touched upon the implementation of the programmes aimed at sharing the experiences in legal groundwork realm of reforming and social and economic development, as well as in speeding up the adoption and ratification of two-sided agreements and contracts.
The meeting ended with the conclusion of a joint map to develop cooperation among the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan for 2019-20.
