China is ready to boost shipping operations through Kazakhstan’s seaports
Representatives of the China Communications and Transport Association visited Kazakhstan’s seaports - Aktau and Kuryk - in order to familiarize with their capabilities in the Caspian Sea, Strategy2050.kz refers to the press service of the Union of Kazakhstan Transport Workers “KAZLOGISTICS”.
The Chinese delegation was shown the available ports’ capacities, as well as their willingness to increase transit container traffic from China to Europe and vice versa.
Aktau and Kuryk have significant advantages for reducing delivering time of goods along the port of Lianyungang (China) - Aktau/Kuryk (Kazakhstan) - Istanbul (Turkey) to 30 days. In addition, they have flexible tariff conditions in comparison with other existing routes. Another positive factor is the use of multimodal transportation, in other words, the phased delivery of the same consignment of goods by several means of transport at once and by means of transportation: sea, rail, road.
1,803 containers were handled at Aktau port in 2018, and 4,884 - in the eight months of 2019. 8,382 containers were handled in Kuryk last year, and 7,458 in the eight months of this year.
In general, the Chinese delegation positively assessed the possibilities of Kazakhstan’s port infrastructure in the Caspian Sea and expressed readiness for further mutually beneficial cooperation with the Union of Kazakhstan Transporters “KAZLOGISTICS” and the ports of Aktau and Kuryk to attract new transit cargo.
During the meeting, representative of the Chinese delegation - Director General of the Beijing Land Bridge Logistics Consultation Center Co, Ltd, Mr. Wu Jingyu, announced the formation of a container train in early October this year for its subsequent direction on this route.
