Baku hosted an extraordinary meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Turkic Council
On 6 February 2020, a Kazakh delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mukhtar Tleuberdi took part in an extraordinary Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States, convened for the first time in the Organization’s history, Strategy2050.kz reports with reference to the Kazakh foreign ministry.
The meeting had Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov, Kyrgyzstan - Chingiz Aidarbekov, Turkey - Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Uzbekistan - Abdulaziz Komilov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Levente Magyar in attendance.
The agenda covered current issues of cooperation between the States and organizations that are not members of the Turkic Council, on renaming the organization, the Turkic Future 2040 programme and the timing of the next summit.
The foreign ministers adopted the regulations on the Honorary Chairman of the Turkic Council after First President of Kazakhstan, Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev’s election as the Honorary Chairman of the Council at the 15 October 2019 7th Summit of the Turkic Council.
The Kazakh foreign minister drew attention to the initiatives of the First Kazakh President to change the name of the organization and develop the Turkic Future 2040 programme, voiced during last year’s 7th Summit of the Turkic Council.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Turkic Council, Kazakh diplomat Baghdad Amreyev spoke of an increase in the interest of the international community in the Turkic Council. In this regard, during the Ministerial Council, the importance of adopting regulations on obtaining the status of observer and partner of the organization was noted.
The parties also discussed the timing and venue of the 8th Summit of the Turkic Council.
The Ministerial Council also featured a bilateral meeting between the Kazakh foreign minister and Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-speaking countries Altynbek Mamayusupov.
