Average monthly salary rose in Kazakhstan in last year
The average monthly salary for the first time exceeded 200 thousand tenge in the last quarter of last year. However, Kazakh people employed in the agro-industrial complex, as well as in the fields of education and health care still receive less than 150 thousand tenge on average, Strategy2050.kz reports with reference to Finprom.kz.
According to the results of last year’s 4th quarter, the average monthly salary of Kazakh citizens was 203.9 thousand tenge, a 15.8% increase than in the same period the year before. In view of inflation, the real growth in the purchasing power of salaries stood at a significant 9.9%.
The largest salaries traditionally fall on the two oil-producing regions and both capitals, while other regions, except for the four, observe the figure below the national average.
In Atyrau region, an all-time leader, the average monthly nominal salary was 345.2 thousand tenge, 7.5% more than a year earlier (and 1.6% more, taking into account inflation). Mangystau region with a salary of 309.1 thousand tenge, an increase of 10.9% and real growth of 4.7%, was second in the list of regions with highest salaries.
In Nur-Sultan, salaries reached 308.1 thousand tenge, with an increase of 15.1% and an 8.9% increase in purchasing power, in Almaty - 248.7 thousand tenge, plus 12.4% (and a 6, 9% rise taking into consideration inflation).
The most real growth in salaries was in Western Kazakhstan (by 18.5%), Shymkent (by 17.3%) and Almaty regions (by 16.4%).
Residents of the southern densely populated agrarian regions - Turkestan (total 138.1 thousand tenge) and Zhambyl (140 thousand tenge) regions received the least.
The highest salaries in the country were among those employed in the field of financial and insurance activities: 402.5 thousand tenge, plus 10.4% per year, with a real increase in purchasing power by 4.7%.
The top three highest-paid industries include the scientific and technical sphere (373.4 thousand tenge, plus 12.3%, with real growth of 6.5%) and the industrial sector (280, thousand tenge, with a nominal growth of 9.7 % and real - by 4.1%).
Manufacturing saw the high salaries received by mining workers - 428.3 thousand tenge. Meanwhile, in the processing segment, salaries were much lower - only 234.4 thousand tenge, and in electricity and water supply - only 191.6 thousand and 132.7 thousand tenge, respectively.
The lowest salaries were among those employed in agriculture: only 127.3 thousand tenge, with an increase of 15.6% and a real increase of 9.7%. Also among the outsiders in terms of salaries were workers in areas that ensure the quality of human capital in Kazakhstan: education and healthcare, with salaries not reaching even 150 thousand tenge per month.
The minimum salary in 2019–2020 is 42.5 thousand tenge. In 2018, this figure equalled a mere 28.3 thousand tenge.
