Almaty to host 2019 European Film Festival
The annual European Film Festival is due to take place on 5-7 November 2019 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where the European Union is planning to screen 16 best movies, the Union’s delegation informs.
This year’s European Film Festival includes 16 best films produced by 16 European Union member States, among them the winners and nominees of high-level international film awards such as 3 Cesar Awards – Bloody Milk, David di Donatello awards – A Ciambra, The Vice of Hope, Cannes Critics’ Week Grand Prize winner – Diamantino, Locarno Film Festival Special Jury Prize winner – Ray & Liz, Venice Film Festival for Best Actor – Saint George, Karlovy Vary Film Festival awards for Best Director – The Line, Winter Flies, and numerous Bucharest, Slovenia, Slovakia, Montreal, Tokyo, Sundance film festivals winners in different categories.
5 November 2019 is about to see the opening of the Festival by the film Mellow Mud directed by Renars Vimba, a winner of Berlin Film Festival and Latvian National Film Festival Awards. A story of migration, family, society, growing up and nature is behind the film.
On the next day master classes will be conducted by the prominent European filmmakers including Mr Renars Vimba from Latvia, Caroline Thirion and Anne Laudisoit from Belgium, with them personally presenting their award-winning films and sharing their tips and tricks on film production, pitching and documentary with the local audience. The seminars are due to take place at Turan University (Almaty, Satpayev Str. 16).
The European Film Festival will be closed by the documentary film Mbudha produced by Caroline Thirion. The movie reveals a story of Anne Laudisoit's expedition in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to bring back evidence of the presence of a rich and rare biodiversity needing protection.
All the films will be displayed in their original languages with Russian subtitles.
