AIFC hosts first online Olympiad in Economics and Finance
The main objectives of the AIFC Olympics are to identify talented students who are interested in economics, business and finance, through finding non-standard solutions to the tasks, Strategy2050.kz reports referring to the press service of the Astana International Financial Centre.
In the current year more than 300 schoolchildren from 14 regions of Kazakhstan and 3 cities of republican significance will take part in the AIFC online Olympics, including 199 students from the cities of Nur-Sultan and Almaty, and 137 from the regions.
At the opening ceremony the Governor of AIFC the President of the Governing Council of the International Olympiad in Economics and the Deputy Vice-Rector of the “High Economy school” National Research University of Russia, Mr. Fedorovykh D.A., Mr. Kelimbetov K.N., Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University named after Lomonosov Mr. Auzan A.A. and Director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Daryn" Mr. Boranbai A. A. gave their inspirational speeches.
Fedorovykh D.A. noted that today many countries have refused to hold their national competitions and expressed gratitude to the AIFC initiative in holding the first online Olympics in the context of a coronavirus pandemic.
Kairat Kelimbetov, the Governor of AIFC emphasized that in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, in the era of technological, economic and social changes, the key priority of education has been the development of the ability to constantly adapt and learn new knowledge. In order to maintain high rates of employees with international skills and knowledge AIFC pays high attention to such kind of youth projects.
Alexander Auzan, Honorary Member of the AIFC Academic Council, in his speech emphasized the special importance of the Astana International Financial Center as a regional hub not only in the development of the financial market, but also in the transfer of knowledge. Also, he highlighted the high importance and relevance of emotional intelligence in the ongoing rivalry of humanity with artificial intelligence.
Director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center “Daryn” Mr. Akzhol Boranbai in his speech pointed out that AIFC Bureau of Continuing Professional Development during the Olympiads covers the direction of economics and finance, that should become the basis for economic diversification and the establishment of a competitive business model of Kazakhstan.
It should be noted that the first AIFC Online Olympics in Economics and Finance is being held with the support of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Daryn".

In the past years more than 150 pupils participated at the AIFC Olympics and the winners were included to the National Team of Kazakhstan and represented the country at the International Economics Olympiad (hereinafter - IEO).
According to the results of Kazakhstan participation national teams in 2018-2019 Kazakhstan won 7 medals in individual standings at IEO (1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze), as well as bronze in the team standings and silver for the tour according to the decisions given of the business case.
Thus, this year the winners of the Olympics consisting of 5 people will form the National Team to represent the country at the International Economics Olympiad.
