The Global Competitiveness Report (GCR) is a yearly report published by the World Economic Forum. Since 2004, the Global Competitiveness Report ranks countries based on the Global Competitiveness Index. The Global Competitiveness Index integrates the macroeconomic and the micro/business aspects of competitiveness into a single index. The report "assesses the ability of countries to provide high levels of prosperity to their citizens. This in turn depends on how productively a country uses available resources. Therefore, the Global Competitiveness Index measures the set of institutions, policies, and factors that set the sustainable current and medium-term levels of economic prosperity.

Comparative study of the Global Competitiveness Index from 2008 till 2014 has shown Kazakhstan pursues its ambition steadily.

Thus, in the 2008-2009 Global Competitiveness Index rankings, Kazakhstan ranked 66th among 134 countries, in 2009-2010- the 67th position among 133. During the next two years (2010 to 2012), Kazakhstan ranked the 72th position in rankings. In 2012-2013, Kazakhstan occupies 51st place out leading global economies. And in 2013-2014 World Competitiveness Index Kazakhstan ranked 50th in.

The above mentioned figures indicate that Kazakhstan is moving steadily. In modern conditions, the focus is not only and not so much on the material resources, but on the intellectual potential. Therefore, the most important aspect of achieving competitiveness is the development of human potential through building effective education and health systems, improving the quality of life, creating a favorable environment for business development.
