"Katon Karagai" and "Akzhaiyk" included to UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves
UNESCO international experts highly praised the efforts of the Government of Kazakhstan, MAB National Committee and National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ISESCO for elaborating the nominations, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affiars reports.
At present there are 4 UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in Kazakhstan. In 2012-2013 Korgalzhyn and Alakol received the status of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves.
Inclusion of Kazakhstani reserves to the World Network of Biosphere Reserves contributes to conservation of natural resources, as well as economic and touristic development of Kazakhstan.
During the session, the Chairman of MAB Kazakhstan National Committee Roman Jashenko was elected for the post of UNESCO MAB Vice President that certifies active role of Kazakhstan in the framework of UNESCO.
