Given the pace of development of cattle breeding in the country, the number of cattle, opening of new veterinary stations, laboratories equipped with modern equipment, the demand for personnel of veterinary service is growing every year and now is about 2-3 thousand people, Issayeva noted.
At the same time, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, six agricultural universities in the country annually prepare about 1.5 thousand veterinary specialists. However, as the Deputy Minister said, the majority of graduates of veterinary departments work in other areas, or in commercial clinics that offer higher wages. In addition, many students lack practical skills necessary for work with modern technology, drugs, equipment, documentation.
To solve the problem of staffing shortfall the Ministry of Agriculture put forward the initiative on mandatory three-year post-graduate practice for veterinary students-grant holders.
In addition, the veterinary profession has been included in the programs "With Diploma to Village" and "Bolashak", that will allow to raise the prestige of this profession among young people.
