Astana hosts international standards of judge candidate’s selection
This event was organized by the Supreme Court RK jointly with the European Commission for Democracy through Law, as well as OSCE Center in the city Astana, the official portal of the Supreme Court reports.
The Chairman of the Supreme Court RK K.Mami, Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council RK B.Beknazarov, Chairman of the Agency for Civil Service Affairs RK A.Baimenov, Manager of the State-Legal Department of the Executive Office of the President A.Rakisheva, judges of the Supreme Court and local courts, deputies of the Parliament RK, President of the Union of Advocates A.Tugel, Head of the OSCE Center in Astana N.Zarudna, members of the European Commission for Democracy through Law of the Council of Europe, chiefs of Kazakhstani and foreign institutes of advanced training of judges, and international and national experts took part in the event.
Such issues as practice in the selection of judges in Kazakhstan and abroad, improvement of criteria of selection of judge candidates, role of a specialized master’s degree program in training of judicial personnel and others were touched upon in reports of participants of the round table, also there was a constructive opinion exchange on this subject matter.
In his speech the Chairman of the Supreme Court RK K.Mami noted that "Criteria and procedures of selection, as well as elevation of judges in office are of crucial importance for establishment and functioning of an independent judicial system, which is called upon to ensure legal and fair justice". Modernization of the system of training and selection of judicial personnel, increase of professionalism of the judicial establishment of the country is one of the tasks of the state Head on further development of the judicial system, assigned at the VI Session of judges RK on 20 November 2013.
In conclusion recommendations on the basis of a foreign and national experience on improvement of a personnel potential of the judicial establishment were adopted.
