Record number of foreign journalists to cover presidential run in Kazakhstan
The accreditation of foreign media’s representatives has been recently finished. Throughout the entire electoral period, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, together with the Central Election Commission, conducted work on registering observers from foreign countries, international organizations, as well as journalists to cover the election process.
In general, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan accredited 227 foreign correspondents from more than 40 countries of the world (for reference: in 2015, 168 representatives of foreign media were registered for the presidential run). At the same time, 121 foreign correspondents are accredited at the Ministry permanently. This indicates the high interest of the world community in our country and the ongoing changes in the political and social life of the State, the MFA's press service informed.
It should be noted that foreign journalists are entitled to observe the elections in the presence of a certificate of the permanent or temporary accreditation issued by the foreign affairs agency.
Moreover, the Constitutional Law “On Elections” establishes a provision allowing observers of foreign States and international organizations, as well as representatives of foreign media, to attend the elections, accompanied by an interpreter, upon presentation of an accreditation certificate.
