This year will be a new stage of development of volunteering in Kazakhstan – Tokayev

Being on a working visit to Kostanay region, the Kazakh Head of State attended the Kazakhstan-Russia Young Cooperation Forum “Volunteering is social lift of young”, as well as toured some facilities, the press service of Akorda has informed.

Before the forum Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the young STARTUP-projects exhibition and got familiarized with the work of Kostanay region’s Youth Service Center.

Having welcomed those present, the Kazakh President told the forum gives an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences, find like-minded people, set common objectives and plans.

“Kazakhstan is a young country of young people! Our youth is the driving force of progress. All the governmental bodies’ task is to create conditions for successful self-realization of young, support their endeavors”, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

In his speech, the Head of State recalled that great attention is paid to development of volunteering.

“In 2016, the act on volunteering was adopted, which set the status of volunteers, their rights and requirements and state support measures. The EXPO international specialized exhibition signaled the beginning of mass involvement of young in volunteering in 2017. This year will be a new stage of development of volunteering in Kazakhstan”, the President said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev listed the main events to be held as part of the Year of Youth.

“The program for developing youth business initiatives “Zhas kasipker” (Young entrepreneur-author’s note) allows for support for startups in key sectors of the economy. The issues regarding youth unemployment, lack of education are dealt with. Special programs relating to employment of largely young without work experience are implemented. The support for qualified young specialists will be even greater”, the Head of State said.

The Kazakh President called on leaders of the volunteer movement to actively participate in dealing with the enormous social objectives the country faces.

The President also commended the contribution of Kazakh and Russian young people to the strengthening of bilateral relations.

“I know that direct contact between young people of our states is key in strengthening a course towards strategic partnership, friendship and good-neighborliness between Kazakhstan and Russia. We are linked not only through a common history and the longest land boarder, but also through the huge cooperation potential”, the Head of State said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev gave proposals aimed at stimulating partnership between volunteer movements of two countries.

“First, I propose to establish a “Volunteer of the Year” international prize awarded for the best projects in volunteerism and will be invaluable for those generating creative ideas and projects. Secondly, I propose to set a standing Volunteer Council involving volunteer organizations from Kazakhstan and Russia. This will enhance our potential to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation”, the Kazakh President stated.

The Head of State additionally supported the initiative, put forward at the forum by the leaders of the youth organizations, to announce 2020 year the Year of Volunteers, conduct joint archeological and search expeditions to historical and cultural places

Also, the Kazakh President visited the motor vehicle manufacturer “SaryarkaAutoProm”.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was informed about the plant’s development prospects, the strategy for expanding the production capacity. Later, the President toured the universal workshop for car body paining and workshop for SKD manufacture of cars.

The President outlined that Kazakhstan creates a modern high-technology economy responding to the world standards of quality.

With production capacity is over 28 thousand cars a year, the plant assembles Ankai, MAN, JAC, Hyundai and Lovol cars.

As part of the visit, the head of state was presented projects by foreign investors working in the sector, as well as briefed about the work of the single contact center “Call-center 109” and the status of implementation of the “Otkrytyi akimat” (Open mayor’s office-author’s note) project. The President also got familiarized with the work of the Monitoring and Rapid Response Situation Center.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev claimed for the necessity to extend the experience of the iKomek center to all the regions of the country.

At the end of the meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev gave Sergey Blok, director of Milkh LLP, Abai Mukanov, director of Aluminstroi LLP, Dinara Utebayeva, chairwoman of the public fund “Civil alliance of Kostanay region “GREEN,” education veteran Stanislav Shchegelskoi appreciation letters to mark their contribution to the social and economic and cultural development of the country.
