‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative is a new globalization model - Nazarbayev
While addressing the participants, Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed his appreciation to the Chinese Chairman, Xi Jinping, for the old warm hospitality and invitation to the Forum.
“They in China say “If you want to get rich, build roads first”. This is what the Great Silk Road is about that we’re re-creating today. Two thousand years ago Eurasia was merged into a single network of roads through the peoples’ courage and entrepreneurial spirits. This was the first prototype of globalization in human history", the first Kazakh President said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev told over the last thirty years, there were many concepts to re-create the Silk Road in Eurasia, which failed to be realized.
“Somehow it looked like the future trend of human development was predestined. However, the Silk Road’s model put forward in 2013 in Kazakhstan by China seems to be not only resilient during the ongoing geopolitical conditions, as well as successful over the last five and half years of its development”, he said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that Kazakhstan supported the initiative “Belts and Roads” since the first days of its adoption, dwelling on the results reached following the first Forum.
“The world has suffered enough from conflictual geopolitical concepts, and leans towards geo-economics and shared development. “One Belt, One Road” is more than just a set of new opportunities for economic cooperation, with the initiative echoing over 120 countries’ call for security, greater trade and prosperity”, the first Kazakh President said.
He told despite the political contradictions, sanctions and trade wars, trading volume under the initiative rises and stands at over US$5tn.
Nursultan Nazarbayev notes the initiative “One Belt, One Road” is a new model of globalization.
“The center of world gravitation returns back to East. Asia has become the region of the 21th century, with 28% of global GDP, and that figure only grows. Nowadays easternization generates new cooperation benchmarks”, the first Kazakh President said.
The Leader of the Nation also pointed to the potential of the paring of the Silk Road Economic Belt project and the Eurasian Economic Union.
“The initiative “One Belt, One Road” circumvented the geographical and development gaps. Eurasia becomes united, networking the different and remote parts of our continent as it was two thousand years ago. We managed to form economic corridors in a short time, despite difficult landscapes and geopolitical contradictions”, Nuristan Nazarbayev said.
The first Kazakh President outlined the results of infrastructural development and enhanced transit and transport potential.
“Over the last 10 years Kazakhstan’s investments in infrastructural development, transport and logistics’ assets and competences amounted to US$30bn. Over 3 thousand kilometers of national railways and 12.5 thousand kilometers of roads were upgraded and brought into use. The domestic air and seaports were reconstructed., leading to the creation of a modern and competitive hub in short time”, the Leader of the Nation stated.
Additionally, Nursultan Nazarbayev told on the logistics projects involving Kazakhstan’s active participation.
“Since 2016 a plan to pair the Nurly Zhol programme with the Silk Road Economic Belt has being under way. The top-notch intercontinental highway “Western Europe – Western Chine” which connected Europe and China via Russia and Kazakhstan was constructed. Our country built a logistics terminal in the Chinese city of Lianyungang. The Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran-the Persian Gulf railway is being rolled out. Kazakh ports Aktau and Kuryk cope with the increasing transshipment from China to the South Caucasus, Turkey and further on, to Europe”, Nazarbayev noted.
The First Kazakh President underlined that through the “One Belt, One Road” Chinese Chairman Xi Jinping calls for jointly forming the shared destiny of the world’s people.
“This new thinking in the global politics echoed my idea of G-Global, seeking to consolidate interests of all countries”, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
Concluding his speech, the first Kazakh President congratulated the Chinese people on the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, wishing success in achieving the objectives of public development.
