Nazarbayev proposes to nominee Tokayev as candidate for President from Nur Otan Party

The 19th extraordinary convention of Nur Otan Party highlighted the nomination from the Party in the upcoming presidential elections. The convention gathered deputies of all levels, the Political Council’s members, Party veterans, representatives of the regional branches, grass-roots Party organizations and activists of the Zhas Otan branch. First Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that the recent Party Convention discussed all the pressing issues of the country’s life, approved the Party program, reviewed our all achievements.

“Kazakhstan is entering a new stage of its development. 19 March, as you know, I ceased my duties. Such a decision I made for a better future for our country. A new generation for the Government will come in, and that time is now. I believe this generation will help them in creating conditions and work for our country’s sake. Over the years of independence, the path travelled has been great. We started our path as a state during the worst economic crisis; the economic collapse put at risk the very survival of most people. Experts were predicting inter-ethnic conflicts and tensions. We’ve proved the entire world that we have the right to live in our independent country in peace and harmony”, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

Having dwelled on the achievements reached since gaining independence, the First Kazakh President noted that the country is at the beginning of the road.

“Everyone is aware of my rule – economy first, then politics. To get peoples’ lives, welfare back in order was of primary importance. Today, we are one of the successful countries in the world. Kazakhstan is among the top 50 developed countries in the world. However, there is a huge work to do in the future. The poverty rate has fallen by 10 times. The state encourages businesses. I am proud of having been honored to form independent Kazakhstan. However difficult the times, my nation has always supported my initiatives, followed me. As a result, we’ve reached great achievements. We’re at the beginning of the road in historical terms”, Nazarbayev continued.

Nursultan Nazarbayev was sure of Kazakhstan’s bright future.

“Our main goal is to enter the top 30 developed states of the world. We have a precise plan to reach this goal, put forward in the strategic development plan until 2050. Our core values are unity, strong vertical power, strong economy, people’s welfare and peaceful foreign policy. I am convinced that some deviation from the bedrock principles might be a tremendous historic mistake for us, and the continuity of our course will ensure Kazakhstan’s successful development”, the First Kazakh President said.

The extraordinary session of Nur Otan Party featured the nomination of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the post of President of Kazakhstan from Nur Otan Party.

“As Nur Otan Party Chairman, I submit the nomination of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the post of President for consideration. We have worked together for many years. I think his is the right candidate for the highest post in the country. He has been trusted colleague of mine for years and supported all the beginnings and initiatives. I believe in him”, said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

On top of that, the Nur Otan Chairman explained his decision to nominate Tokayev’s candidacy for the post of President of Kazakhstan.

“His diplomatic abilities are highly valued abroad. As you know, he served as a Deputy UN Secretary, he is also a very experienced state politician. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev headed the Government during the most difficult times, actively rebuilding our economy during the crisis in Asia in 1998. In the late 90s and early 2000s, he carried out several reforms, opening up the path for our economy’s development. During those years, he backed up my idea to create the National Fund. The first steps towards social modernization were made, development institutes appeared as well. A new pension system was established. He greatly contributed to parliamentary development while taking the post of Senate Chairman. I fully trust him and think that he is the right citizen to govern the country. He is a modern state politician. I call on everyone to support our candidate from the Party and vote for him”, Nazarbayev said.

The Nur Otan Party Chairman signed a decision to muster the 19th extraordinary Convention of Nur Otan Party, with the main theme including Nursultan Nazarbayev’s instructions on Nur Otan Party’s active engagement in the upcoming election campaign.

It should be noted that the press service of Nur Otan Party announced the holding of the convention officially on April 10.
